Description of custom stainless steel products
Stainless steel milled parts are components made of alloyed or unalloyed steels with a high degree of purity and a sulfur and phosphorus content of less than 0.025 percent. Mostly it is spoken of stainless or stainless steel. In industrial production, alloy 1.4301 is often used for stainless steel milling , as this type of stainless steel has a high corrosion resistance. However, users of stainless steel milling should be familiar with the milling behavior of the individual stainless steel alloys, as different characteristics must be taken into account when milling the individual alloy types. Especially where high purity is required, stainless steel milled parts are the first choice. Typical examples are the food industry, beverage production or medical technology.
What has to be considered in stainless steel milling?
Due to the large cutting forces, the machining of stainless steel should only be carried out on machines which are also suitable for metal cutting. The chemical compositions and mechanical properties of the individual types of stainless steel should be taken into account , since the toughness of stainless steel strongly affects the milling tools , since stainless steel requires completely different cutting and machining parameters than when milling carbon steel. However, the use of cooling lubricant can increase the service life of the tools and achieve an optimum surface finish. As a method, the synchronous milling with heavily relief milling cutters is ideal, which is why surfaces without Chatter marks are not a problem.
